Paramedic Career Framework

Research Fellow/Senior Research Paramedic

A Research Fellow or Senior Research Paramedic plays a key role in developing, supporting, and co-leading research projects that enhance knowledge and evidence-based practice within paramedicine. This role is integral to advancing research capacity within the profession, contributing to the design, implementation, and dissemination of studies that inform clinical practice, education, and healthcare policy.

In addition to conducting their own research, individuals in this role often collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, securing funding, supervising junior researchers, and fostering partnerships between universities, ambulance services, and other healthcare providers. A strong foundation in research methodologies is essential, typically supported by postgraduate study and hands-on research experience. While many in this position hold or are pursuing a Master’s degree (such as an MRes) or equivalent, a combination of research expertise, professional development, and experience in paramedic research is also considered essential.
